The Quick Scan (QS) evaluates cooperation between specialists within a specialist group. The QS is a helpful tool to gain insight into the strengths and opportunities for performance improvement within a specialist group. In addition it also maps out those aspects of cooperation that have the highest priority for improvement according to the group members. The QS can be used by specialist groups within all specialties. The QS has been recently updated and is one of the subjects for further research in Professional Performance research group.
The QS is divided into six domains each aimed at different parts of specialist groups’ collaboration. These six domains are: vision & shared goals, partnership structure, decision-making and support systems within the group, climate & communication, overall performance and group reputation and safety culture as perceived by the members of the group.
Specialist groups are responsible for providing safe and responsible patient care. Therefore, it is crucial that these partnerships function well.
In the Dutch context the QS is used by several groups as part of the re-registration quality assessment.
Evaluation is based on questionnaires. All group members fill out a questionnaire. The QS consists of idealistic statements/situations. The question is to indicate to which extent each situation applies to the situation in one’s own group. Also the specialist are be asked to prioritize which aspects need the most improvement.
All members of the participating specialty group are asked to fill out the QS questionnaire. Filling out the questionnaire takes approximately 10 minutes.
Participation in QS is anonymous (unless all group members have agreed to share the results with each other).
At the end of the pre-determined measurement period, all group members receive an evaluation report containing anonymized results of all evaluations. This report also includes an overview of improvement priorities as identified by the group members.
Web based evaluation
The QS evaluation is completely web-based. Filling out the questionnaires as well as receiving the final reports (per faculty member) is completely automatic. The security of the QS system fulfils strict safety requirements.
